Naiyun Yang: Silent Places

“During my residency, I visited various monuments and forgotten places, most of them around Zagreb. These structures were built after the war, either as memorials or as symbolic, grand investments in the capital’s future optimism. Some were also used as military facilities. As a visitor from a generation that hasn’t experienced war firsthand, I was struck by their unique, aesthetic forms and found myself questioning how to reflect on the history and revolution they represent.
Through my photography, I aim to capture these constructions from my artistic perspective, adding a layer of understanding to the significance of these remnants and their relevance to contemporary society and cultural context.” (N. Yang)
